April 29, 2008 – At the first European Lung Cancer Conference, The European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) and the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) launched a free online database, aiming to help oncologists choose the best therapies for patients with non-small-cell lung cancer.

The online database brings together data on known somatic mutations in a molecule called epithelial growth factor receptor (EGFR). Somatic mutations in this cell-surface molecule are known to affect treatment with the newer tyrosine kinase inhibitor class of drugs.

The transaction would enhance Allscripts position in the overall healthcare information technology sector and create an industry leader in the growing electronic health records (EHR) and practice management (PM) markets, said the company. The combined company will have a client base of approximately 150,000 U.S. physicians and 700 hospitals.

April 28, 2008 - Derma Sciences said today the FDA has given clearance to another dressing in the MEDIHONEY product line, a dressing cleared for use on burns and wounds.

The product is 100 percent Active Leptospermum Honey and comes in a 1-ounce tube with an applicator tip. The other dressings already cleared in the MEDIHONEY line are in calcium alginate and hydrocolloid formats.

April 28, 2008 - Osteotech Inc. said the FDA cleared its Plexur P Biocomposite for use in spinal applications as a bone void filler and as a bone graft extender.

Previously, Osteotech received FDA clearance for Plexur P for use in filling bony voids of the pelvis and extremities.
