October 15, 2008 – TeraMedica reported that it won the Frost & Sullivan (F&S) 2008 Customer Value Enhancement Award in the North American Imaging Informatics Markets.

TeraMedica’s portfolio includes product solutions such as Evercore and Univision, which F&S said allow consolidating the multitude of patient data and digital healthcare information under one umbrella and servicing EMR, EHR and RHIO domains with technology such as a service-oriented architecture (SOA) and health information exchanges (HIE).

October 15, 2008 – Philips Research has concluded a usability and feasibility study of its decision support software tool for the automatic evaluation of dementia using PET (Positron Emission Tomography) image data.

The software has been evaluated in collaboration with the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (Hamburg, Germany) and Austin Hospital (Melbourne, Australia).

The new PACS (shown as work in progress at RSNA 2008) will deliver significantly enhanced reading tools that can help speed exam interpretation and provide enhanced reporting, particularly for complex exams when comparing data sets.

Carestream's new Web-based RIS employs Microsoft Windows' .net framework to offer tremendous flexibility in a thin-client solution. This framework and new platform will allow IT staffs to easily and affordably add hardware for greater system scalability. Users can install and run the RIS client from a URL; software upgrades are automatically downloaded and installed to reduce maintenance.

Release 8.2 software for DR Systems' Unity RIS/PACS platform features expanded applications on client-supplied hardware, critical results tracking and timesaving DICOM structured reports.

October 14, 2008 – iCAD’s two new MRI products — SpectraLook, iCAD’s image analysis solution for breast and prostate MRI studies, and CADvue, an image review and analysis software for breast MR — will be unveiled at the 7th Annual Symposium on Advances in Breast MRI in Las Vegas, from October 16-18, 2008.

October 14, 2008 - Clinicians at VU University Medical Center in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, who are using RapidArc technology from Varian Medical Systems to treat early stage lung cancer patients now plan to replace conventional stereotactic radiotherapy treatments with RapidArc for all such patients.

A 57-year-old male, diagnosed with a 1.2cm diameter non-small cell lung tumor in the right upper lobe and deemed unfit for surgery as a result of severe emphysema, was the first patient to receive the pioneering radiotherapy treatment at the hospital in early September.

October 14, 2008 - At TCT 2008, Philips will showcase CT Comprehensive Cardiac Analysis (CCA) with 3D-QCA, which is used to perform detailed evaluation of the coronary arteries and advanced ventricular functional analysis.

Designed to help hospitals integrate CT directly with interventional cardiovascular procedures, Philips Brilliance CT's Comprehensive Cardiac Analysis (CCA) package uses a 3D CT segmentation of the coronary tree to select and visualize the best 2D C-arm projections for use in planning for percutaneous coronary interventional (PCI) procedures.

October 15, 2008 - Philips is showing for the first time at TCT, the CX50 CompactXtreme ultrasound system, which brings premium technologies from the Philips iE33 system to a compact form.

October 14, 2008 - GE Healthcare introduced Discovery PET/CT 600, its newest positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) system at the annual meeting of the European Association of Nuclear Medicine (EANM) Congress in Munich.

Recently cleared by the FDA, Discovery PET/CT 600 is part of GE’s Discovery family of scanners designed to enable earlier detection and accurate monitoring of disease with molecular imaging technology in both hardware and software.
