Definiens is developing computer-aided detection (CAD) applications for the 3D and 4D medical imaging field, Definiens LymphExpertT, designed to help radiologists rapidly and accurately identify and track lesions of interest, facilitating earlier detection and personalized treatments.

The new application is designed to help radiologists analyze lymph nodes, providing volumetric insight and time modeling functions.

Siemens now has a works-in progress research portal for clinical research and hypothesis validation, enabling collaborative research in knowledge discovery. The system connects to multiple information systems, extracts data, supports querying of cohorts, implements guidelines, and allows for data mining and algorithm development, including third party application integration. The portal allows researchers to:
- Manage and store research data, including images, genomics, proteomics, and clinical data

Siemens offers an integration of CAD into its advanced 3D applications, as well as the use of CAD in the PACS workflow.

TyRx Inc. launched its AIGISRX ICD, an anti-bacterial envelope developed to help reduce surgical site infections and create a stable environment for implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs).
The launch of AIGISRX ICD extends TyRx’s AIGISRX CRMD (cardiac rhythm management device) platform to the implantable cardioverter defibrillator market. The AIGISRX CRMD platform also includes AIGISRX PM, the company’s anti-bacterial coated mesh designed specifically for implanted pacemakers.

CadOne is Three Palm Software’s mammography computer-aided detection (CAD) solution offered to original equipment manufacturers (OEM) for integration into their product suites.

Three Palm Software’s WorkstationOne is a breast imaging workstation software that offers a distinctly different style of enterprise integration and interpretation workflow.

Decision support for radiology is designed to benefit the radiologists, hospitals and the healthcare system in several ways - by improving patient outcomes, decreasing healthcare costs and urging providers to take part in pay-for-performance (P4P) initiatives. However, decision support has not been readily embraced without some resistance.

The rising tide of teleradiology services is being heralded by some as a breakthrough in radiology that will ultimately improve the quality of healthcare and provide new jobs for U.S. radiologists.

With the election of a new president and Congress, not to mention a tumultuous economy, medical imaging, just like many other medical sectors, faces uncertain times going in to 2009.

Myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) using single photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography (SPECT/CT) is an application that has been recently bolstered by the development of quantitative tools that enhance the system’s clinical capabilities in the nuclear cardiology community.
