November 23, 2010 — Two recently FDA-approved computer-aided detection (CAD) products will be displayed at RSNA Chicago.

IBA's Compass 3-D treatment verification and dose analysis software helps reduce radiation exposure to critical structures. The system creates a beam model and measures 20 millisecond multileaf collimator (MLC) treatments and integrates this into gantry positions. The system then imports this data and reconstructs the dose using the patient's computed tomography (CT) data sets.

November 23, 2010 — The Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH) of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued an “approvable letter” for the Selenia Dimensions system for breast tomosynthesis (3-D) imaging.

TomoTherapy introduced its HD radiation therapy platform at ASTRO 2010. The system allows both helical and direct fixed angle radiation therapy treatments. The HD's hardware also aids in stereotactic procedures for intercranial radiation therapy.

Exam-Link is a regional health information organization (RHIO) image-sharing platform from CoActiv. The LINK provides RHIOs and other affiliated, authorized medical facilities with immediate access to all patient exams, wherever and whenever the exam was performed. The vendor-neutral, cloud-based solution combines a pre-indexing feature that enables remote Web-based image access with all the advanced features and security of the company’s Exam-Vault archiving.

IBA introduced its new Proteus One proton treatment system during ASTRO 2010. It is about one-third the size of current proton treatment systems, taking up about the same amount of space as two linac rooms side-by-side.

November 22, 2010 – An entry-level digital radiography system will be unveiled at RSNA 2010. DRxpress, by Imix Americas, will provide digital radiography (DR) accessibility to low-volume facilities.

The Fluoroscan InSight mini C-arm system is more versatile, efficient and cost effective than many larger C-arm fluoroscopy systems. Designed specifically for orthopedic and other extremity surgeons, the system is designed to offer maneuverability, high-definition (HD), low-dose fluoroscopy images and automated adjustments that deliver the optimum image every time, for every patient.

November 22, 2010 – A new breast MRI coil comes in two configurations: an award-winning patient stretcher, and a tabletop configuration leveraging the same open access features of the patient stretcher. The Sentinelle Breast MRI coil, by Hologic, along with its Variable Coil Geometry feature allows for the diagnostic coils and biopsy grid positioning to be customized to each patient.

The Hologic Selenia Dimensions 2D FFDM system can be configured for 3-D digital breast imaging when and if breast tomosynthesis is approved by the FDA.
