November 23, 2010 — The Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH) of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued an “approvable letter” for the Selenia Dimensions system for breast tomosynthesis (3-D) imaging.

TomoTherapy introduced its HD radiation therapy platform at ASTRO 2010. The system allows both helical and direct fixed angle radiation therapy treatments. The HD's hardware also aids in stereotactic procedures for intercranial radiation therapy.

November 22, 2010 – A new breast MRI coil comes in two configurations: an award-winning patient stretcher, and a tabletop configuration leveraging the same open access features of the patient stretcher. The Sentinelle Breast MRI coil, by Hologic, along with its Variable Coil Geometry feature allows for the diagnostic coils and biopsy grid positioning to be customized to each patient.

The Hologic Selenia Dimensions 2D FFDM system can be configured for 3-D digital breast imaging when and if breast tomosynthesis is approved by the FDA.

Radiation oncology as a profession is in a period of retrenchment due to the economic crisis.
