PenRad’s patient tracking and mammography information system (MIS) expedites viewing and reading of mammography exams as well as tracking of patient data and images. PenRad systems can be seamlessly integrated with Carestream’s mammography workstation, which can be connected to a picture archiving and communications system (PACS) from Carestream or other vendors.

As I was writing this month’s column, I ran across a quote attributed to Catherine the Great, who said, “I praise loudly, I blame softly.” Coincidentally, the words echoed a topic I planned to discuss, inspired by a program on radiation safety I attended during the recent annual meeting of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine – namely, that one way to reduce medical radiation errors in imaging facilities is to adopt a culture encouraging personnel to report mistakes without fingerpointing.

September 16, 2011 — McKesson Enterprise Medical Imaging will be demonstrating the latest release of its radiology information system (RIS) and picture archiving and communication system (PACS) at the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) 2011 meeting.

Interventional radiology (IR) software maker HI-IQ announced the launch of Peer Benchmarking reports for the IR community. HI-IQ subscribers can leverage the power of data collected by the HI-IQ user community across the United States through the national HI-IQ Peer Benchmarking Database.

September 16, 2011 – During RSNA 2011, McKesson will highlight Horizon Cardiology, which enables users to improve quality of care, boost efficiencies and reduce costs while increasing physician and staff satisfaction in the cardiovascular department. September 16, 2011 – Toshiba America Medical Systems Inc. has donated and installed a refurbished Aquilion 4 Computed Tomography (CT) system at Tenwek Hospital in Bomet, Kenya. The donation is part of the company’s effort to provide remote countries better access to medical imaging technology.

September 16, 2011 — GE Healthcare and Veran Medical Technologies Inc. announced they have formed a strategic alliance to advance and co-develop navigation technologies for interventional procedures to improve care and management of cancer patients. Building on the alliance, the GE Healthymagination Fund, an equity fund that invests in promising healthcare technology companies, is investing in Veran. The financial terms were undisclosed.
