December 28, 2011 — lifeIMAGE launched its LINCS service at RSNA 2011. The network is designed to improve patient care and reduce costs by allowing physicians to share medical images and associated information with each other, medical centers and patients. It eliminates information system and geographic barriers; this allows images to be shared everywhere, whether it's with the hospital down the street or a specialist on the other side of the world.

December 27, 2011 — RamSoft will demonstrate support for breast tomosynthesis in PowerServer 5.1 at RSNA 2011. Support is fully integrated into all versions of PowerServer 5.1 that support mammography; this means radiologists are not dependent on a dedicated mammography workstation to review breast tomosynthesis studies.

December 27, 2011 — The January 2012 issue of the Journal of the American Society of Echocardiography (JASE) will feature a new resource for guidance on three-dimensional echocardiography (3-DE). The document, titled The EAE/ASE Recommendations for Image Acquisition and Display Using Three-Dimensional Echocardiography, provides a practical guide on how to acquire analyze and display the various cardiac structures using 3-DE.

December 27, 2011 – The university hospital Klinikum rechts der Isar in Munich, Germany, is the first hospital in the world to operate with Brainlab's Curve image-guided surgery system. Curve is Brainlab's latest generation of image-guided surgery systems. The new technology provides surgeons with better possible guidance and control during surgery, enabling faster, more precise and safer interventions.

December 27, 2011 – In a move to re-engineer the process of translating scientific discoveries into new drugs, diagnostics and devices, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has established the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS). The action was made possible by Congress’ approval of a fiscal year 2012 spending bill and the president’s signing of the bill, which includes the establishment of NCATS with a budget of $575 million.
