January 20, 2012 – Nuclear cardiology imaging company Positron Corp. this week acquired Manhattan Isotope Technology LLC (MIT). Positron has acquired all of the assets, business operations and retained all employees of MIT. In exchange, MIT shall receive cash advances, assumption of certain indebtedness and earn-out consideration of $3.5 million based on 20 percent of the net income from sales relating to radioisotope and radiopharmaceutical operations of MIT.

January 20, 2012 – Siemens Healthcare has joined with LMT Lammers Medical Technology GmbH to exclusively offer the nomag IC – LMT’s MR Diagnostics Incubator System for the transport of newborns and premature babies – as an add-on to Siemens’ 1.5T and 3.0T magnetic resonance (MR) systems, including the Magnetom Aera and Skyra systems.

Fifteen years ago, I was ready to bet the farm that X-ray, with its hundreds of thousands of systems installed worldwide, was ready to embrace the digital revolution. Every other modality had done so. PACS gurus lamented that X-ray’s intransigence was the main – if not the only – reason that PACS was not catching on. And their argument made sense. Radiographs alone accounted for about 70% of all radiologic images. Major suppliers, including Thales in Europe and Varian on this side of the Atlantic, had announced fabrication facilities capable of stoking the digital fire.

January 17, 2012 – Data presented at the 6th Annual Human Amyloid Imaging (HAI) meeting in Miami suggest that the investigational 18F imaging agent Flutemetamol could add value to current diagnostic tools used by physicians to evaluate neurodegenerative conditions like Alzheimer’s disease. Flutemetamol is a GE Healthcare positron emission tomography (PET) radiotracer in phase III development for the detection of beta amyloid plaques.
