With increasing concern about radiation dose levels in radiology, I wanted to share my personal opinion on the subject based on my observations in the industry and first-hand experience as a patient.

March 16, 2012 - iCAD Inc., an industry-leading provider of advanced image analysis, workflow solutions and radiation therapy for the early identification and treatment of cancer, announced the launch of a post-market study to assess the safety and efficacy of the company’s FDA-cleared Xoft Axxent eB system when used for single-fraction, intra-operative radiation therapy (IORT) at the time of lumpectomy for early stage breast cancer. A historical comparison will be made to the current standard of care, external beam radiation therapy (EBRT). The announcement was made during the 29th Annual Miami Breast Cancer Conference where iCAD is showcasing the Xoft System.

March 14, 2012 – Brainlab won a coveted red dot Award. Creative heads and manufacturers from all over the world submitted 4,515 designs altogether to the international product competition. Feature by benefit, Curve inspired the experts and received the globally sought after red dot in product design.


The current Guinness World Record holder for the tallest man, Sultan Kosen, won't be posting new records for height anymore, but that's just fine with him. Kosen appears to have stopped growing following radiation therapy treatment at the University of Virginia Medical Center, earning the medical center a mention in the 2012 Guinness World Records.


March 16, 2012 - A technological breakthrough is allowing the University of Michigan Health System to be the first teaching hospital in the United States to perform some CT scans using a fraction of the radiation dose required for a conventional CT image.

March 14, 2012 - Mevion Medical Systems announced today it received CE mark certification for the Mevion S250 Proton Therapy System. This important commercial milestone indicates that Mevion has completed its development in compliance with the European Union's Medical Device Directive. The CE Marking allows the MEVION S250 to be marketed, sold, and installed in the European
Union and in any country recognizing CE mark approval.
