The Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital (SMGH) has adopted Molli — a precise, easy-to-use new technology for breast cancer localization.

July 12, 2022 — The Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital (SMGH) has adopted Molli — a precise, easy-to-use new technology for breast cancer localization. Recently, an SMGH team participated in its first breast-conserving surgical procedure using Molli. SMGH is the first hospital in the southwest Ontario region to use this technology.

Molli Surgical’s Health Canada-approved and FDA-cleared Molli features the Molli Marker — the smallest localization marker on the market — and is designed to give a better patient experience over traditional wire localization. The Molli Wand detects the marker and visualizes its location on a tablet, helping surgeons locate lesions more efficiently with improved accuracy. Molli is also a great benefit for patients as it allows for more convenient scheduling of marker placement.

“Molli is an innovative and revolutionary way of localizing breast masses that cannot be felt. It allows for a less painful and more effective way of finding the breast disease that needs to be removed, during surgery,” says Dr. Vipan Jain, MHA General Surgeon. “The marker can be inserted weeks before the surgical date, allowing for easier scheduling for patients and no loss of signal during surgery, making it a better option than the radioactive seed guide. Once placed, the chances of it moving and/or dislodging are virtually nonexistent, making it a better option than the conventional wire guide. We're seeing these benefits, and with the ease of use in the operating room, I believe Molli is a better option for patients.”

“Congratulations to the team at SMGH and Molli Surgical for bringing this innovative, precision technology to our community — and for the difference it will make for Strathroy patients and for their families,” said Joanne Vanderheyden, Mayor of Strathroy-Caradoc

“We’re very pleased to do our part to help improve the patient experience with the use of Molli at Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital,” said Fazila Seker, President and CEO of Molli Surgical. “We believe that by improving the way we care for people who are experiencing breast surgery — together with creating more efficiency in radiology and surgery departments — creates a better overall experience for both physicians and their patients, and ultimately strengthens hospitals and the communities they serve.”
