CT Software Enables Dose Lowering by 70 Percent

December 30, 2008 - Sapheneia, a global, ISO-certified imaging services company specializing in diagnostic and analytical image processing solutions, signed an agreement with Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm, Sweden, allowing Karolinska University Hospital to use and evaluate the Sapheneia Clarity CT Solution to lower radiation dose exposure to patients during diagnostic image studies.

Karolinska University Hospital has installed its first Clarity CT Solution in the Trauma unit. The Clarity CT Solution, a CE Class IIb medical device, enhances the diagnostic quality of images based on settings optimized by the radiologist. This allows Karolinska University Hospital to lower radiation dose exposures. By enhancing the lower-dose CT images, Clarity CT Solution provides radiologists with the diagnostic confidence previously available only when reading the same images at full dose.

“I have already lowered the dose by more than 70 percent on sinus CT studies and, Clarity effectively raises the diagnostic confidence,” said Mats Beckman, M.D., chief radiologist at Karolinska Hospital’s Trauma Unit. “It is important to keep the CT dose as low as possible, and I have now started to use Clarity CT Solution for urology CT studies and will continue to incorporate more anatomies in my diagnostic workflow.”

The Sapheneia Clarity product-line is said to provide a complete solution for tunable, anatomy-specific image-optimization, enabling lower radiation dose protocols for CT data acquisition while maintaining diagnostic quality.

Sapheneia also released at RSNA 2008 its Clarity Solutions, a program designed to enable widely-used clinical X-Ray imaging applications to employ lower radiation dose protocols with no loss in diagnostic confidence. This aims to support improved safety for both patients and healthcare providers, as well as improve the cost effectiveness of healthcare imaging.
