May 1, 2012 -- SonoSite Inc., tspecialist in bedside and point-of-care ultrasound, announced a partnership with the African Institute of Innovation and Technology (AIIT), a Kenyan education trust, to establish the first ultrasound education program at Great Lakes University of Kisumu-a technology hub of East Africa. The AIIT ultrasound program is designed to provide physicians, midwives and clinical workers with greater access to ultrasound education, training and medical resources to improve the health and welfare of the people in the region.

December 15, 2011 – Fujifilm Holdings Corp. announced today that it has entered into a definitive agreement with SonoSite Inc., a provider of bedside and point-of-care ultrasound technology, pursuant to which Fujifilm will acquire SonoSite for approximately $995 million (which includes amounts payable in connection with its convertible debt). The transaction was unanimously approved by the Boards of Directors of both companies.

Probably the biggest trend occurring in cardiovascular ultrasound systems today is the adoption of 3-D/4-D echo systems, which offer the benefits of better images, more data, better measurement quantification and faster workflow. Other key trends include: software to speed workflow with fewer keystrokes and to enhance quantification; miniaturization; increased use of tissue strain imaging, and expanded use for operating room and cath lab procedures.
