The American College of Cardiology (ACC), along with several partnering societies, recently released appropriate use criteria addressing the evaluation and use of multimodality imaging in the diagnosis and management of valvular heart disease.

Elekta and Brainlab have reconfirmed their alliance for the integrated use of the Elekta Versa HD linear accelerator and Brainlab ExacTrac patient positioning and monitoring technology. The integration of these two technologies offers high-definition stereotactic radiosurgery (HDRS) treatments with versatile patient positioning and monitoring through simplified workflows. A Versa HD system augmented with ExacTrac was displayed at the Elekta booth during the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) Annual Meeting, Sept. 24-27 in San Diego.

The American Society of Nuclear Cardiology (ASNC) and the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE) jointly announced a partnership to develop an ASE Echocardiography Module to expand ASNC’s ImageGuide Registry. The Echo Module, ImageGuideEcho, will continue the registry’s mission to harness the power of patient data to accelerate research and technology development for improved patient outcomes in the field of cardiovascular imaging.

According to a recent survey, participation in bundled payments has improved the quality of care, and anticipation and preparation for new programs remains high. The survey — conducted by Archway Health, a Boston-based firm specializing in managing bundled payments programs — assessed the perceptions and efficacy of bundled payments ahead of the expected announcement of a new bundled payments program from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) cleared the first 7 Tesla (7T) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) device, more than doubling the static magnetic field strength available for use in the United States. The Magnetom Terra from Siemens Healthineers is the first 7T MRI system cleared for clinical use in the United States.

All systems include iPerformance technologies that deliver extreme processing power and help healthcare providers to see and do more, according to the company. A new beam-forming technology, iBeam, optimizes efficiency of the beam, increasing resolution, and the systems offer advanced clinical applications, including an ultra-thin transducer (24 MHz).
