The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations issued a Sentinel Event Alert that urges healthcare organizations to pay special attention to how tubes and catheters are connected to patients, and challenges the manufacturers of these devices to redesign them in ways that will make dangerous misconnections much less possible.

GE Healthcare and Intermountain Healthcare have announced a contract for the implementation of GE’s Centricity Radiology Solution, a combined RIS/PACS solution formerly known as IDX Imagecast, in 21 institutions across Intermountain Healthcare’s network. When complete, the installation will mark the largest GE centralized PACS installation in the U.S. 

EliteAccess, which is used to combine the AquariusNET thin-client with the advanced Aquarius Workstation to greatly increase radiology reading efficiency and enhance workflow, has been introduced. It provides access to both streamlined workflow, optimized tools and high-end workstation applications through the convenience of the single AquariusNET thin-client user interface.

HIPAAT Inc.’s toolkit enables imaging vendors to generate IHE-compliant audit messages from proprietary logs, supports IHE’s Audit Trail and Node Authentication profile, and offers centralized security auditing capabilities.

Candelis’ ImageGrid industry-standard DICOM architecture provides 1 to 6 terabytes, with optional expansion to 38 terabytes, has embedded PCADS capability and automated base routing of DICOM for LAN.

The addition of All Clinical Object support to Evercore Clinical Information Manager will be featured at PACS. Now large healthcare systems with immense clinical medical imaging and associated large-scale data sets, can efficiently maintain the continuum of clinical objects in a patient-centric format.
Evercore Clinical Information Manager now extends SmartStore Clinical Policy Intelligence as the lifecycle information manager to classify and consolidate across the entire patient data set.

AccessRAD, an integrated RIS/PACS solution, is designed to meet the needs of acute care hospitals, enterprise-wide delivery networks and large imaging enterprises. This end-to-end solution automates processes at every point of patient and encounter workflow. Existing AccessNET PACS users may also upgrade their configuration to include the powerful tools found in the AccessRAD module for complete integration of their daily workflow requirements.

With the syngo Suite, image acquisition, RIS, PACS and postprocessing come together with the clinical and administrative cycles addressed by Soarian, a new generation health information solution (HIS). Soarian features a longitudinal clinical repository that gives clinicians browser-based, real-time access to the complete patient record, including patient histories, demographics, allergies, results and images.

The release of the RadiForce R23, a 2-megapixel, 21.3-inch color TFT, dual-domain IPS LCD monitor for accurate display of color and grayscale MRI, PET, CR images, including image fusion and 3-D color rendering has been introduced. Product enhancements include enhanced brightness of 500 cd/m2 and a contrast ratio of 500:1. The monitor is scheduled for worldwide availability in February of 2006.

IMPAX Enterprise, an IT solution that addresses the intricate and often complex enterprise-wide issues for hospitals and healthcare facilities, has been launched globally. The solution provides an integrated image and information management approach to those issues.
