The new NEC Professional series contains over 20 new features that produce crisp, clear images; enable better control and connectivity; increase energy efficiency; and provide greater adjustment versatility.
The series utilizes a high-end IPS panel and develops features such as a 12-bit Look Up Table for crisp, clear images; has selectable gamma settings including a DICOM GSDF curve for grayscale image viewing; and ColorComp for unparalleled grayscale and color uniformity.

Kodak has received clearance from the FDA for several specialized functions that enable radiologists to diagnose images generated by cardiac CT exams. These specialized functions include: cardiac review and analysis; cardiac cage removal in 3-D imaging; and cardiac calcium scoring. These features will be integrated into the next version of KODAK CARESTREAM PACS software, which is scheduled for commercial availability in mid-2006.

Mayo Clinic has announced it has developed a series of MRI devices that make it easier to diagnose injuries and diseases that affect wrists, forearms, elbows, hands and fingers. Mayo worked with IBM Engineering and Technology Services and IBM Design Consulting Services on this solution. With recent FDA approval, the group plans to market these devices to other medical centers nationwide.

Designed with one 8-by-8-inch floor mounted cardiac C-arm and one 12- by-16-inch ceiling mounted C-arm, the Infinix DP-i/FD2 vascular X-ray system from Toshiba America Medical Systems enables physicians to obtain the high-quality images needed to perform both detailed peripheral vascular work and coronary studies without compromise for more efficient, comprehensive patient care. In addition, the system’s design allows clinicians to perform both coronary and vascular studies on the same table without moving the patient-saving time and increasing overall patient comfort.

System Release 5.30.1 with new and improved administrative tools, enterprise workflow and open standards support will be demonstrated.
Integrated Administrative Toolset is a Web admin tools that includes a rules-based QC Workstation, LDAP support and deletion control policies.
The Enhanced Enterprise Workflow tool includes Personal Content Manger with JPEG2000; Exam Worklist with enterprise-wide folder views; and bidirectional dictation API.

Significant upgrades have been made to the new z.one ultrasound system. The upgrades include three new transducers, calculation packages and a proprietary technology, Zone Speed Technology or ZST, to automatically recognize and adjust for the differences in body sound propagation, which is possible only due to Zone Sonography technology. The new transducers are available in spring 2006, while the new clinical ultrasound upgrades will be available this summer.

The Sony FilmStation 14 x 17-inch dry film imager is the only imager of its kind that can be installed either in the upright vertical position or horizontally. It outputs film in less than one minute, and when connected with another FilmStation imager can print up to 130 films per hour.

In today’s healthcare environment, most patients have multiple diagnostic tests with multiple clinicians. The medical challenge is to provide continuity to the information workflow while upholding protection of each provider’s information systems. Diagnostic imaging is an example of the challenge in this environment.

Eclipse radiotherapy treatment planning software includes a set of treatment plan templates that can streamline the process of creating an individual plan for each patient. Doctors can reportedly adjust their own previously established treatment protocols for certain types of cancer so they do not have to build a new plan from square one.
Eclipse also incorporates an automated segmentation tool that speeds up contouring, the process by which doctors separate diseased tissues from healthy organs on a set of 3-D diagnostic images.

Huestis has teamed up with Agfa for a radiotherapy CR. They will be showing the Flexi•holder, which aims to cut down on retakes from improper cassette positioning. Its wide base allows for accurate radiographs to be taken from virtually any angle. A change from film/screen to the Agfa CR can save radiotherapy departments on film usage, chemicals and image storage space, with all the benefits of digital imaging.
Huestis is also showing the Compu•cutter III, which is available as a complete package or as a single unit that can plug and play with an existing configuration.
