Philips iSite PACS is a solution for delivery of medical images and reports to referring physicians throughout the hospital enterprise. Several viewing and processing applications are now interfaced with the iSite Radiology application.

CoActiv Medical Business Solutions will introduce a multimodality cardiovascular module to its full-featured EXAM-PACS Web-based enterprise PACS. The new cardiovascular functionality combines local and remote viewing, management, distribution and archiving of cardiac studies including nuclear cardiology, echo cardiology, MRI, CT and more.
With this new module, CoActiv EXAM-PACS now supports fully integrated digital cardiovascular workflow as a complement to existing comprehensive radiology and orthopedic support and becomes a complete solution for all medical images.

eRAD has received FDA 510(k) clearance for soft-copy viewing of digital mammography images. This clearance allows eRAD to market its eRAD PACS Diagnostic Workstation software and FDA-cleared display hardware to the mammography community. In conjunction with this clearance, eRAD is adding several features to its viewing capabilities, including mammography-specific hanging protocols, mirrored rendering tools including panning and magic glass zooming, support for R2 Technology’s ImageChecker CAD markers and BI-RAD support in reports.

(IMSI) has released the upgraded and integrated imsiRIS.PACS, a Web-based image and report distribution system with optional outsourced remote, secure hosting service, providing access to radiology information system functions from anywhere and at anytime. The system is powered by Visage PACS 4.0 System by Mercury Computer Systems Inc. with 3-D images and post processing on thin client/server platforms.

Dräger Medical AG & Co. KG today announced that it has expanded its relationship with Masimo and will integrate Masimo Rainbow SET platform as its principal pulse oximetry technology. The Rainbow SET platform offers Masimo SET Read-Through Motion and Low Perfusion pulse oximetry plus upgradeability to add other parameters in the future. Upgrades are available today for carboxyhemoglobin (carbon monoxide) and methemoglobin and others are planned for the future. Dräger Medical will be incorporating Masimo Rainbow SET into major acute care products.

Thoratec Corp., a product manufacturer in cardiovascular disease, said that its International Technidyne Corporation (ITC) division acquired A-VOX Systems Inc., a manufacturer of point-of-care (POC) instruments and disposables to perform CO-Oximetry testing.

Research by a Sandia National Laboratories engineer and a University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center neurologist shows that brain injury may occur within one millisecond after a human head is thrust into a windshield as a result of a car accident.

This happens prior to any overall motion of the head following impact with the windshield and is a new concept to consider for doctors interested in traumatic brain injury (TBI).

A New UCLA study shows Ceremed Inc.'s Ostene, designed to stop bone bleeding during cardiac surgery, doesn't inhibit bone regeneration and is an effective substitute for commonly used bone wax, a beeswax-based remedy known to obstruct healing that has been in use at least since the Civil War and is a factor in hospital-acquired infections. The study results were announced at a scientific conference in Stockholm and will be published later this year.
