May 15, 2007 - Smith & Nephew plc, a global medical technology business, announced that its advanced wound management business has agreed to purchase BlueSky Medical Group Inc. ("BlueSky"), a privately-held company headquartered in Carlsbad, CA, for an initial payment of $15 million. The company has developed products for treating chronic wounds using negative pressure wound therapy ("NPWT") and manufactures a range of negative pressure pumps and wound dressing kits to serve its global customer base.

May 15, 2007 - According to two separate studies presented at the American Society of Breast Surgeons (ASBS) Annual Meeting, an intraoperative breast cancer probe, the Dune Medical probe, demonstrated significant potential for reducing positive surgical margins in lumpectomy patients—including those with hard-to-detect, pre-invasive, ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS).

May 15, 2007 - Cardinal Health and VIASYS Healthcare recently announced a definitive agreement for Cardinal Health to acquire VIASYS for approximately $1.5 billion, including the assumption of outstanding debt.
Under the agreement, Cardinal Health will make a cash tender offer to acquire all outstanding shares of VIASYS common stock at a price of $42.75 per share.

May 15, 2007 - Since 2000, mammography rates have declined significantly in the U.S. according to a new study published in the June 15, 2007 issue of CANCER, a peer-reviewed journal of the American Cancer Society.

The study confirms that screening mammography rates to detect breast cancer fell by as much as four percent nationwide between 2000 and 2005. This is the first study to show that the trend is nationwide among women for whom the test is intended to reduce mortality risk.

May 15, 2007 – The American Cancer Society recently announced that it is keeping its recommendation that women begin receiving annual mammograms at age 40, though other organizations recommend mammograms for women every one to two years from age 40 to 50 and then every year after age 50.
