June 1, 2007 — Cedara Software, a Merge Healthcare company, has released its C4 platform, an integration framework that enables modular integration of clinical applications with minimal impact on the host software product. A C4 enabled host and clinical application provide an integrated desktop with procedure-centric workflow.

Gambro has signed an agreement with Intensive Care On-line Network (ICON) to provide its intensive care customers with 24-hour access to critical care experts.

Gambro customers can now call a toll-free number and talk directly with intensive care physicians, nurses, critical care PharmD, respiratory therapists, nutritionists, and information technology specialists.

June 1, 2007 – The Cancer Centers of Excellence (CCE), a new national network of oncologists made up of a group of 224 physicians representing 21 practices in the U.S announced that it has launched with the goal of bringing together community-based oncologists to improve the care of cancer patients by aiming to provide high-quality, cost-effective, best-in-class care for cancer patients.

June 1, 2007 – Clinicians at Edward Hospital in Naperville, IL, recently reported that they are using Trilogy, an image guided radiation therapy (IGRT) technology from Varian Medical Systems to offer some cancer patients a treatment that adapts to changes in the tumor so that more healthy tissue can be preserved.

May 31, 2007 — A new study to be published in the June issue of the journal Medical Care finds that hospitals that have better staffing and less overtime for registered nurses are safer for elderly intensive care unit (ICU) patients.

The study is yet another piece of scientific evidence that bolsters the case for increasing RN staffing in hospitals, prohibiting mandatory overtime and limiting the number of patients assigned to a nurse.
