Acuo Technologies released its next-generation archive overview, called the AcuoMed Image Manager, reportedly secure, open-system software for transporting, storing, tracking and retrieving digital images across a DICOM network.

The platform uses Microsoft Windows 2000 or 2003 Server under Intel and AMD. The Acuo DICOM Services grid facilitates a DICOM infrastructure built on a SOA that aggregates DICOM objects and queries results, replicates storage assets and builds on a collaborative and extensible grid-computing model.

The DICOM box CA connects non-DICOM modalities to PACS by allowing users to review dynamic images and cine loops outside of modality workstations and providing real-time video acquisition and DICOM conversion from monochrome and color video sources. The CA is designed to facilitate cine acquisition, lossless and lossy image compression and DICOM storage for ultrasound, fluoroscopic, cardiac and angiographic systems.

The Smart Port CT is a new vascular access port indicated for power injection of contrast media with a flow rate of 5mL/sec. The system has a design that allows for superior fluid dynamics to eliminate dead space and the formation of sludge, thus extending the working life of the port.

The Smart Port CT is available in two catheter sizes - 9.6F and 7.5F. It features Fluoromax 100 percent silicone catheters with a radiopaque shaft and tip. The Smart Port CT also features a large septum for easy access. A CT indicated LifeGuard Infusion Needle system is also available.

TIMS DICOM System by Foresight Imaging reportedly has the ability to convert any nonDICOM medical modality to DICOM as a solution for legacy modalities that are too expensive to upgrade.

TIMS can reportedly convert images from the following medical modalities to DICOM, including ultrasound, fluoroscopy, endoscopy and motion X-ray. The solution captures both static images and streaming video at 30 frames per second, and even converts JPEG, BMP and AVI images to DICOM.

The NovaPACS solution includes MIPs, Cardio Viewer and Ortho Template Library. The multiplanar reconstruction (MIPs) was added to provide high-volume cardiovascular studies with saggital and coronal viewing capabilities. The new Cardio Viewer clinical workstation, which offers cardio tools for both cardiologist and cath lab operators, serves as a stand-alone workstation or can be added to a NovaPACS clinical workstation.

Impac just completed its first installation of its new Mosaiq Oncology PACS, a system designed to manage increasingly large volumes of image data generated in radiotherapy, accommodating the complex workflow of radiation oncology (RT) and providing integration with the Mosaiq image-enabled EMR system.

Pacsgear's new MediaImport is a solution that enables access to nonDICOM sources such as documents and multimedia as PACS evolves into a multimedia repository, managing JPEGs, AVIs and MPEGs, digital cameras, USB memory sticks or flash memory, in addition to DICOM.

The system imports external DICOM-compliant CDs/DVDs from a reportedly wide range of PACS vendors, supports DICOM modality worklists and allows editing patient demographics and changing fields prior to import.

Capintec partnered with Numa to develop an application that integrates Cap-DICOM software with the Captus 3000 Thyroid Uptake System with RIS and PACS.

Numa engineered the digital application that creates a complete DICOM record for each patient exam, including demographics and a secondary screen capture of the alphanumeric exam data. The new Cap-DICOM software interfaces with RIS and PACS and queries the DICOM worklist provider to populate the Captus report with patient demographics.

IntegradWeb PACS Version 3.7 is designed to boost performance and scalability of IntegradWeb PACS. Dynamic Imaging recently introduced its latest technical innovation, IntegradWeb PACS Version 3.7, which is being developed for scalability to one million annual PACS exams and beyond. Dynamic Imaging is also focusing development on the IntegradWeb PACS image viewer to surpass today’s average loading times for the first image of a PACS study of three seconds on the LAN and tens of seconds across the WAN for large studies.

The SIR-Sphere by Sirtex is a radioactive polymer sphere that emits beta radiation and is the only FDA-approved microsphere therapy for advanced colorectal cancer that has spread to the liver.

Physicians insert a catheter through the groin into the hepatic artery and deliver millions of SIR-Sphere microspheres directly to the tumor site. The minimally invasive procedure is performed on an outpatient basis, leaving the patient with minor side effects.
