July 20, 2007 - Scientific Vision Systems (SVS), a distributor of medical and professional video equipment, announced availability of the two new Mitsubishi color printers, the CP-30DW, the digital version, and the CP-30W, the analog version, ideal for medical applications such as ultrasound and endoscopy.

With Barco’s Coronis Color 3MP DL all modalities and all color-enriched applications can be viewed from a single, multimodality display system. Users no longer have to choose between color and grayscale.
The versatile single display system delivers 2-D and 3-D renderings and uniform images across the entire screen. Engineered with the latest LCD technology, Coronis Color 3MP DL reportedly provides unprecedented brightness (500 cd/m), an excellent contrast ratio (300:1) and worry-free DICOM accuracy over the entire lifetime of the display.

TomoTherapy Inc. will introduce the StatRT software package for its Hi-Art treatment system to facilitate optimal treatment of time-critical cancer cases. StatRT allows the full radiation therapy process — CT scanning, treatment planning and treatment — to be completed in as little as 30 minutes. The software is designed to enhance the quality of care for time-critical cancer cases.

The concept of IGRT, pioneered by Elekta, and the creation of Elekta Synergy, was driven by the need to visualize internal structures, including soft tissues, in three dimensions within the reference frame of the treatment system and at the time of treatment.

NOMOS Radiation Oncology, A Division of North American Scientific, will introduce the recently FDA-cleared BATCAM Multi-probe, its new IGRT solution. The system integrates a new multiprobe-capable ultrasound system into the company's core IGRT product, BATCAM. This new system will come standard with an updated abdominal ultrasound probe featuring color doppler ultrasound enabling IGRT for liver and pancreas treatments in addition to prostate and GYN.

StrandPort Pre-Loaded from BrachySciences is designed to reduce procedural time and handling. End caps ensure the strand is contained in the afterloaded until it is needed. The extended length sytlet allows the strand to be advanced through the strandport and applicator needle in one step, allowing for an entirely afterloaded strand implant or combined with applicator implant. Up to 15 pre-loaded, sterile StrandPorts per tray. Visit BrachySciences at AAPM in Booth #747.

North American Scientific will showcase its ClearPath, a high-dose rate radiation treatment created for breast brachytherapy, aiming to enhance current accelerated partial breast irradiation (APBI) treatment options. The company’s multichannel catheter system, which is inserted through a single incision, is designed to allow for low-dose or high-dose therapy. ClearPath reportedly offers physicians greater flexibility in treatment planning and dose optimization to the target region, while minimizing exposure to nearby healthy tissue.

CIVCO Medical Solutions will present its new carbon fiducial markers that reportedly optimize imaging characteristics for emerging IGRT modalities such as kV imaging and cone-beam CT.
CIVCO’s carbon markers reportedly produce clearly identifiable images with now widely available kV imagers, providing enhanced resolution with low-density materials. The new markers may also eliminate artifacts in CT scans.

The Neonatal Chest Phantom by Gammex was developed to simulate pneumothorax and hyaline membrane disease while permitting system resolution and noise testing. This reportedly easy-to-use system addresses quality control needs in computed radiography (CR) and digital radiography (DR); permitting simultaneous imaging of normal and disease states. The phantom was designed to challenge imaging system limits with a convenient compact size.

July 19, 2007 — Mediware Information Systems has introduced its new BloodSafe system, a 510(k)-cleared, bedside point-of-care, transfusion administration package designed to extend blood-safety controls outside the blood bank.
