July 27, 2007 - Advanced Image Enhancement Inc., a provider of optimized image enhancement solutions for digital radiology, announced that the firm has entered into a licensing agreement with Hologic, agreeing that AIE will provide its image enhancement software for Hologic's SecureView diagnostic mammography workstations.

AIE's proprietary image enhancement software, which leverages signal processing technology originally developed from Navy research to locate undersea mines, reportedly enables physicians to extract more information from medical images.

July 27, 2007 - Merge Healthcare recently introduced Merge Ortho, a digital workstation solution that reportedly helps orthopaedic specialists save time and improve clinical effectiveness in orthopaedic planning and diagnosis.

The adoption rate for Accuray’s Xsight Lung Tracking System, a system designed for the noninvasive treatment of lung tumors, is exceeding 97 percent, the company announced. Xsight Lung is designed for use with the CyberKnife Robotic Radiosurgery System.

Top performing facilities, such as Central Arkansas Radiation Therapy Institute (CARTI), are employing the ExacTrac X-Ray 6D image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) system, enabling doctors to pinpoint tumors with increased accuracy and treat a wider variety of indications. CARTI treats up to 215 cancer patients weekly with the positioning system and other facilities are reportedly averaging 90 –100 fractions a week, in comparison to 2006 where an average of 65 fractions per week could be administered.

CMS Inc. has completed internal and external validation testing for its new Monaco IMRT planning system. The system, which is CE marked for distribution in Europe, is now pending U.S. FDA 510(k) clearance.

Monaco, according to the company, represents a fundamentally new approach to IMRT planning — the concepts represent a unique and sophisticated set of tools to make the radiotherapy planning process easier, more straightforward and clinically reliable.
