Orfit Industries America’s Efficast thermoplastic mask, part of the Raycast High-precision Patient Immobilization/Positioning System, which applies a new technology for head, neck and shoulder immobilization systems used in radiation therapy, will be on display at ASTRO 2008.
The system is said to allow for less than 2 mm of movement by the patient. Orfit is also offering a hands-on demonstration of the system for the duration of the show.

Imaging control capabilities for 3D Conformal, Intensity-Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT) and dynamic targeting for Image-Guided Radiotherapy (IGRT) are integrated in Varian’s 4D Integrated Treatment Console. The 4D console streamlines the front end of the treatment process by integrating controls of the linear accelerator, multileaf collimator (MLC) and electronic portal imagery into a single workstation. The system supports advanced imaging, including image acquisition.

CIVCO Medical Solutions is introducing the new CIVCO SBRT Body-Lok. The modular CIVCO Body-Lok system functions as a base for indexable patient positioning, secure immobilization and patient transport. The modular nature of the product is said to make it adaptable to the individual department’s technology and needs.

Varian will show at ASTRO its Novalis Tx system, which integrates its Trilogy Tx linear accelerator and new HD120 multi-leaf collimator offering 2.5 mm leaves for finer beam shaping. The Novalis Tx radiosurgical instrument will use a variety of standard and configurable options including Varian’s On-board Imager device, the BrainLAB ExacTrac X-Ray 6D room mounted X-Ray imaging system, BrainLAB iPLAN treatment planning software as well as Varian's Eclipse treatment planning and ARIA information management software.

The ProVision Workstation is designed to streamline radiology workflow through its one-click access of the Cerner Multimedia Foundation, a single repository for all types of images across multiple care venues.

The system is part of Cerner’s suite of radiology solutions including Integrated Digital Dictation and ProVision Web for integration with the electronic medical record.

The CyberKnife System aims to deliver high-dose, hypofractionated radiosurgery treatments.
Using robotic technologies and continual image guidance, the CyberKnife System aims to deliver targeting accuracy with the ability to automatically correct for intra-fraction target motion without interrupting treatment or having to reposition the patient.

hilips has introduced new disposable adult ECG leadwire electrodes designed to be easy to use and to allow patient monitoring products to assist in the prevention of cross-contamination.

The recently FDA-cleared ARTISTE linear accelerator from Siemens Medical has recently gone clinical in three prominent cancer centers around the world, according to Siemens. Dozens of patients have been treated to date at MAASTRO Clinic in the Netherlands, German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in Heidelberg, Germany, and Baton Rouge General’s Pennington Cancer Center in Louisiana.

TQA, or Tomo Quality Assurance, from TomoTherapy Inc. is reportedly the first integrated, machine-specific quality assurance (QA) solution to be offered by a radiation therapy vendor. The TQA application streamlines the collection — and simplifies the review — of data used to monitor radiation therapy equipment and procedures. All TQA data can be exported for third-party validation.

The FDA has granted clearance for GE Healthcare’s newest positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) scanner, which is part of GE’s Discovery family of scanners designed to enable earlier detection and monitoring of disease with advanced molecular imaging technology in both hardware and software.
