March 30, 2011 – Interventional radiologists have completed the first human randomized controlled trial of therapeutic renal denervation, or RDN. RDN is a procedure that uses a catheter-based probe inserted into the renal artery that emits high-frequency energy to deactivate the nerves near the kidneys (or in the renal artery) that are linked to high blood pressure.

March 30, 2011 – Understanding that angioplasty is safe may encourage additional studies for its use as a treatment option for individuals with multiple sclerosis, say researchers at the Society of Interventional Radiology's 36th Annual Scientific Meeting in Chicago.

March 29, 2011 – A two-step platform has been released for use with C-arm digital radiography (DR) systems. The platform is made by Clear Image Devices.


Wide beam reconstruction (WBR) reduces both dose and image acquisition time by 50 percent for myocardial perfusion SPECT (MPI), according to a new study published in the March-April 2011 issue of the Journal of Nuclear Cardiology. WBR is a software program by UltraSPECT for reconstructing nuclear medicine images.

March 28, 2011 – A digital mammography system in two-dimensional mode has been awarded “EUREF Type Test” certification by the European Reference Organization (EUREF) Council for Quality Assured Breast Screening and Diagnostic Services. The Selenia Dimensions 2D system, from Hologic, is one of only three products to have received EUREF approval to date.

May 24, 2011 - FujiFilm and Nuance Communications have partnered to sell Nuance’s dictation systerm to Fujifilm’s established base of radiology customers. In addition the companies have agreed to collaborate on product development, aiming to provide radiologists with higher quality, more consistent reports, created in less time.

March 28, 2011 – Several individuals were honored with the Arizona Cancer Heroes Award on March 23, 2011 at the Ritz-Carlton in Phoenix. Elekta chose the recipients after a three-month call for nominations.
