The American College of Radiology (ACR) and Society of Breast Imaging (SBI) have issued a statement saying that adoption of draft United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) breast cancer screening recommendations would result in thousands of additional and unnecessary breast cancer deaths each year.



The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) released the results of the 2015 HIMSS Mobile Technology Survey. This year’s study, of more than 200 healthcare provider employees, found that nearly 90 percent of respondents are utilizing mobile devices within their organizations to engage patients in their healthcare. The report also showed that respondents believe that mobile health (mHealth) technologies are beginning to drive cost savings and improve the quality of care delivered.
 

On April 17, 2015 the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) issued a proposed rule to update fiscal year (FY) 2016 Medicare payment policies and rates under the Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS) and the Long-Term Care Hospital (LTCH) Prospective Payment System (PPS). The proposed rule, which would apply to approximately 3,400 acute care hospitals and approximately 435 LTCHs, would affect discharges occurring on or after Oct. 1, 2015.

The packages include hardware that accommodates Rayence wireless digital detectors and is designed for an array of portable X-ray units including those manufactured by GE, Siemens, Shimadzu, Dynarad, MinXray and SourceRay.

The “Radiation and the Modern Management of Lymphoma” issue (May 1, 2015) of the International Journal of Radiation Oncology • Biology • Physics (Red Journal) is focused on the integral role of radiation therapy in current lymphoma treatment. The Red Journal is the official scientific journal of the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO).

A new four-year research study will determine the clinical usefulness and value of a brain positron emission tomography (PET) scan in diagnosing Alzheimer’s and other dementias. The $100 million Imaging Dementia – Evidence for Amyloid Scanning (IDEAS) Study — jointly conducted by the Alzheimer’s Association and the American College of Radiology (ACR) — will look at the value of PET in certain situations in detecting a core feature of Alzheimer’s disease.
