June 8, 2012 — With hundreds of installations in MRI suites on five continents, Kopp Development Inc., maker of ferromagnetic detectors for MRI safety, will introduce FerrAlert SOLO during the AAPM 2012.

Designed for facilities with a large outpatient population, FerrAlert SOLO is the latest advancement in pre-screening technology and is particularly attractive for budget-conscious facilities. In 2008 Congress passed the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act (MIPPA). CMS, which is part of HHS, states that as of January 1, 2012 all IDTFs (imaging centers) must be accredited by a designated accreditation organization. The requirements for accreditation include Environment of Care (EC) which refers to Sentinel Events (SE). The joint commission issued Sentinel Event Alert #38, which recognizes the use of Ferromagnetic Detectors to assist in the screening process. In addition, it references a study by Emanuel Kanal, M.D., the chair of the ACR MR Safety Committee and Steven Thomas, M.D.,  specifically on FerrAlert product.

FerrAlert SOLO is a highly sensitive ferromagnetic detector, incorporating Kopp Development’s unique, patented technology to detect and precisely locate offending ferrous objects anywhere on the body. Developed specifically for the MRI environment, FerrAlert detectors are the ONLY ferromagnetic detectors that identify the location of offending ferrous objects. This unique and timesaving feature makes them the preferred choice by hospitals and imaging centers worldwide.

“We introduced FerrAlert SOLO at the AHRA and RSNA conferences this year and are thrilled by the reception we received. In the last three months, we have already sold quite a few FerrAlert SOLO detectors and have bookings all the way through 2012” said Director of Marketing and Sales Anna Srb.

Due to the dramatic increase of MRI accidents, several safety and regulatory agencies now strongly recommend the use of ferromagnetic detectors: the Joint Commission, American College of Radiology, VA MRI Design Guide and others.

“We are so pleased that in these tight economic times, we can help to enhance MR safety by offering FerrAlert™ SOLO at a very affordable price” said president of the company, Keith Kopp.
