January 31, 2012 — At the upcoming February meeting of the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (SCMR) in Orlando, Fla. TomTec will introduce its 2-D Cardiac Performance Analysis magnetic resonance (MR) software product. The tool to quantify myocardial function and deformation based on regular cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

2-D Cardiac Performance Analysis MR allows a cardiologist to study the function of the heart muscle quickly and easily. Quantification of displacement, velocity and strain in individual muscle segments help to assess hypertrophic cardiomyopathy or dyssynchrony of ventricles.

2-D Cardiac Performance Analysis MR is a feature tracking-based analysis tool that supports 2-D data from various cMR systems. It analyzes myocardial deformation in standard MR cine sequences and does not require specific acquisition modes like tagged imaging. Thus, already existing patient data can be used for follow-up comparisons.

“Based on its modern feature tracking algorithm, 2-D Cardiac Performance Analysis MR offers a robust and time-saving analysis of myocardial deformation and therefore meets all the conditions to be implemented in a clinical setting,” said Rolf Baumann, TomTec’s vice president of Clinical Products and Innovations.

The 2-D Cardiac Performance Analysis MR is not commercially available in the United States, awaiting U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 501(k) approval.
