January 26, 2011 – An upgraded version of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) perfusion software is now available. The upgrade to IB Neuro, from Imaging Biometrics, offers several features that help facilitate personalized care for patients with brain disorders as well as increase the productivity of busy healthcare facilities.

One key enhancement, which is based on feedback received from smaller care facilities, is the ability to “auto-compute” and display a full array of perfusion maps in seconds.

The system incorporates proprietary MRI perfusion algorithms that correct for contrast agent leakage to more consistently distinguish between normal and abnormal brain tissue. By providing more specific information about brain tissue biology and vasculature, it helps make earlier diagnoses and optimized treatment plans for patients with brain disorders.

More specifically, it has been shown that MRI-derived rCBV (relative cerebral blood volume) information helps:

• Predict survival better than conventional tumor grading
• Better differentiate brain tumor types than conventional MRI
• Provide information to predict glial tumor grade
• Aid in the differentiation of post-treatment changes from tumor recurrence and predict local recurrence or malignant transformation earlier than conventional anatomical MRI

The system is especially appropriate for smaller healthcare facilities and imaging chains. Other than launching IB Neuro, no user interaction is required. Sites with low imaging volumes can take advantage of this advanced imaging technology in a very cost-effective manner. Likewise, sites with larger imaging volumes can realize valuable productivity gains with the hands-off computing option. It is currently available as an OsiriX plug-in, an image processing platform designed for navigation and visualization of multi-modality and multi-dimensional images.
