System features Wall Motion Tracking for quantified isolated heart movement

March 27, 2015 — The Aplio Platnium Series CV (cardiovascular) ultrasound systems from Toshiba America Medical Systems offer a comprehensive suite of dedicated technology for cardiac diagnosis. The series, including the Aplio 500 Platinum CV and Aplio 300 Platinum CV, feature 2-D Wall Motion Tracking, spectral and color Doppler, and Toshiba’s latest suite of guidance and workflow technologies.

“To successfully implement strain imaging into our laboratory schedule, we needed an echo system that can image a broad range of patients and is easy to use,” said Edmund K. Kerut, M.D., West Jefferson Medical Center. “Toshiba’s Aplio 500 Platinum CV with Wall Motion Tracking technology delivers the image quality and data we need for quantitative measurements. It has made it easier to perform calculation of LV [left ventricular] volumes with ejection fraction and serial follow-up of our chemotherapy patients with added GLS [global longiturdinal strain] measurements.”

The Aplio 500 Platinum CV and Aplio 300 Platinum CV deliver detail and resolution throughout the entire field-of-view, providing excellent definition of the endocardium, which results in an accurate and easy-to-use 2-D strain resolution. Furthermore, Toshiba’s Wall Motion Tracking technology allows doctors to quantify isolated movement within the heart to assist with detection of cardiotoxicity.

“The common perception is that implementing strain imaging into routine cardiac ultrasound increases exam times,” added Curt Hanawalt, sonographer, West Jefferson Medical Center. “However, with Toshiba’s Wall Motion Tracking we are able to measure EF and strain using the same protocol. The technology has actually helped us reduce exam times, providing a shorter and more comfortable experience for the patient.”

Toshiba showcased the Aplio Platinum Series CV at the 2015 American College of Cardiology (ACC) annual meeting.
