System delivers sharp resolution and fast exams for better patient care

St. Cloud Hospital Installs Toshiba Aquilion One Genesis CT for Emergency Department

August 23, 2017 — Central Minnesota residents now have access to advanced computed tomography (CT) technology that is safe and fast at St. Cloud Hospital with the installation of the Aquilion One/Genesis Edition from Toshiba Medical, a Canon Group company. The system is located across a hallway from the emergency department and is being used for a wide range of exams, including neuro perfusion studies.

 “We needed a CT system for our ED that would further decrease radiation dose to patients and improve workflow and efficiency for our staff, while also providing high-quality images for confident diagnoses,” said Joseph Klaers, director of imaging services, St. Cloud Hospital. “The Aquilion One/Genesis Edition offers fast scanning that may help reduce the need for rescans due to artifacts, which happens often with critically ill and trauma patients. Additionally, we appreciate Toshiba Medical’s great customer service and maintenance of the system so we can reduce any downtime.” 

The system offers dynamic volume CT imaging that is sharp, fast and small, according to Toshiba. Ideal for life-threatening conditions like heart disease and stroke, the system features an optimized beam spectrum based on PUREViSION Optics, PUREViSION CT Detector and FIRST (MBIR), improving high-contrast spatial resolution up to 129 percent (2.29 times), while reducing radiation dose 59.2 to 82.4 percent. With AIDR (Adaptive Iterative Dose Reconstruction) 3-D reconstruction times up to 80 images per second and FIRST reconstruction achieved in as little as three minutes per volume (320 images), exams are faster for patients.
