Nationally recognized healthcare provider purchases 11 Mindray portable and six Zonare ZS3 units

Mindray Portable Zonare SZ3 Ultrasound Systems Hennepin County Medical Center

August 21, 2014 — Mindray and Zonare recently teamed together to provide 17 ultrasound systems to Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) in Minneapolis — a nationally recognized regional healthcare provider. The purchase contract includes 11 Mindray portable and six Zonare ZS3 units.

“HCMC is a pioneer in the use of point-of-care ultrasound,” said Andrew Laudenbach, M.D., emergency physician at HCMC. “Having state-of-the-art ultrasound technology immediately accessible in our emergency department is a standard for providing excellence in patient care.”

HCMC is a Level I Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center and nationally recognized medical education center with innovative programs and specialties. In addition to its emergency and trauma services, HCMC provides care through several primary care clinics with various locations throughout the county, including a retail clinic in a local Walmart store. Its emergency department alone has more than 100,000 patient visits each year.

“Because of our high volume and demand for rapid results, we rely on imaging solutions that provide outstanding diagnostic quality and user-friendly interfaces,” said Laudenbach.

The Mindray portable platform provides a wealth of advanced imaging features including excellent temporal resolution along with an innovative implementation of multiple tissue harmonic imaging technologies to improve image quality for technically difficult patients. iZoom enables the ability to view structures more accurately from a distance and iTouch provides a single button image optimization. Tissue Doppler Imaging (TDI), cine, wireless data transfer and real-time 3-D (4-D) are part of the platform as well.

The ZS3 system is based on Zone Sonography technology (ZST). ZST is an innovative approach to echo data acquisition and image formation. Using a small number of large “zones,” ZST acquires ultrasound data significantly faster than conventional ultrasound and extracts more information on each transmit receive cycle. Since the speed of sound traveling through tissue is a physical constant, ZST has a significantly faster acoustic acquisition time enabling superior imaging quality.  ZST is a Living Technology that delivers ultrasound imaging excellence based on a dynamic and open architecture that allows continual platform evolvement.

“We are pleased the synergy between Mindray and Zonare could offer a comprehensive solution for HCMC,” said Glen Mclaughlin, Ph.D., president of Zonare. “These are the type of results we had anticipated when the two companies joined together. We are honored to help support HCMC’s diagnostic goals for their patients.”
