December 19, 2016 — Materialise NV showcased the benefits of 3-D-printed anatomical models for radiologists and their patients during the 2016 Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting, Nov. 27 – Dec. 2 in Chicago.

During the event, the company’s Mimics inPrint software was on display in four workshops introducing the process of converting Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) imaging into a 3-D-printed anatomical model. During the workshops, attendees learned to use Mimics software to facilitate development of 3-D printing platforms within their hospitals.

In addition to these workshops, Materialise Founder and CEO Wilfried Vancraen addressed the event’s 3-D Printing Special Interest Group, discussing evidence-based medicine and the use of 3-D-printed anatomical models, guides and implants as the new standard of patient care.

Additional Materialise activities during the RSNA Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting included:

  • Mimics software was featured in RSNA’s 3D Printed Education Area;
  • Materialise launched AnatomyPrint, an online solution for creating 3-D-printed anatomical models from STL files; and
  • Materialise announced the winners of the 2016 Mimics Innovation Awards, presented annually to researchers who use Mimics to further their profession and the medical industry.
