GE Healthcare's Discovery IGS 730 angiography system
June 13, 2016 — GE Healthcare and Getinge Group announced the U.S. launch of a new, highly flexible angiography solution for surgery, interventional and hybrid operating room (OR) procedures at the Society for Vascular Surgery’s (SVS) 2016 annual meeting.
Jointly developed, this integrated solution pairs GE’s Discovery IGS 730 angiography system with the Magnus operating table system from Getinge Group’s Maquet brand. The combination of these two systems will enable hospitals to expand the range of surgical procedures and interventions they offer and optimize the use of their hybrid ORs.
The Discovery IGS 730 from GE Healthcare offers high-precision imaging technology and mobility. With its laser-guided, mobile gantry, it can be conveniently positioned throughout the OR with high predictability to provide the medical team with full patient access. The sysetm enables the use of both left and right customizable parking locations for patient access during left or right access procedures. Its mobile design allows flexibility in the placement of ceiling-suspended elements, such as laminar flow and booms. It also enables high-quality 2-D imagery as well as cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) HD and multimodality 3-D fusion imaging with opportunities for minimally invasive treatment.
The Magnus operating table system is versatile and has a "floating" function that enables quick and precise movements during catheter-based interventions. Through the flexibility of different table tops, it is possible to expand diagnostic and therapeutic measures for further surgical procedures.
One of the first installations of the combined Discovery IGS 730/Maquet Magnus operating table angiography system is at the University Hospital of South Manchester NHS, United Kingdom. The hospital believes this combined system will allow performing complex, minimally-invasive endovascular procedures and open surgery on patients suffering from cardiovascular pathologies.
“Since the installation of the Discovery system, we have been able to treat more challenging anatomies and medically more challenging patients than with a traditional mobile system,” said Jonathan Ghosh, M.D., vascular and endovascular surgeon, University Hospital of South Manchester NHS. “We have performed on-table embolization during resection of complex cancers, revision endovascular surgery and complex cardiology cases. Furthermore, I am now able to perform complex endovascular repair such as EVAR [endovascular aortic repair] using the Fusion imaging guidance with a fast learning curve on this integrated system. In order to fully utilize the OR, we can easily adapt by exchanging the versatile Magnus tabletop for full spectrum of open operations in all areas of the body. Our workstreams have become more efficient and the imaging quality is vastly superior to our previous mobile imaging systems."
