April 6, 2011 – A new fully integrated cardiovascular picture archiving and communications system (PACS) and certified electronic medical record (EMR) with a Web-based cardiovascular electronic whiteboard has been launched. The components, which are part of Medstreaming’s cardiovascular information system (CVIS) platform, offer a U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-cleared PACS and EMR certified for meaningful use.

Medstreaming, which recently received complete electronic health record (EHR) ambulatory certification for its Medical Office EMR, also announced the first installation of the Enterprise Electronic Whiteboard for ProHealth Care in southeastern Wisconsin. ProHealth Care is implementing the electronic whiteboard to manage real time scheduling of patient workflow in its cardiovascular diagnostic and interventional areas.

"We are very excited to use the Medstreaming Electronic Whiteboard, which we believe will allow us to more efficiently coordinate workflow and communication across our system by graphically displaying scheduling of our cardiovascular patients, procedures, staff, and physicians,” said Todd Anderson, manager of cardiovascular interventional services at ProHealth Care. “These efficiencies will also reduce operating costs.”

Providing a real-time patient management tool for cardiovascular staff to improve their procedural workflow, the system fully integrates with the EMR components within the hospital enterprise. In addition to capturing associated information pertaining to the clinical exam details and priority, resource details such as location, equipment and staff can also be captured, with conflict detection mechanisms in place as needed. The Web-based user interface allows multiple customizable views, including views that are pivoted by time, location and personnel. This flexibility allows users to aggregate their views to best fit their individual workflows, all in real-time.

At the 2011 American College of Cardiology meeting, Medstreaming also introduced several major components to its current CVIS, including a powerful Web-based data mining engine for Physician Quality Reporting Initiative (PQRI), as well as for ICAEL, ICAN, ICAVL accreditation. The company’s Web-based data mining presents a highly efficient module offering hospitals and clinics the ability to run their business very effectively while maintaining a high degree of quality.

By designing a single CVIS platform EMR/PACS system, the company’s technology represents the next generation of cloud based CVIS where there is no need for expensive HL7 interfaces and complex IT infrastructure. No longer will customers be required to purchase special interfaces to share data between traditional EMR and traditional PACS nor be limited by where and when you can access critical patient data. With the platform, DICOM images and DICOM structured reporting will flow directly into EMR and scheduling data will be pushed automatically from an EMR to imaging acquisition devices in one unified worklist solution.

Medical Office EMR is a comprehensive suite of offerings focused on enabling proactive patient care and increasing the efficiency of healthcare delivery by providing clinical care solutions. These include complete scheduling, provider dashboard and patient evaluation programs. Prescription and lab orders can be electronically sent while enabling an up-to-date database for each individual patient record. Patient reminders can be created based on diagnosis, medication, allergies, lab results and demographics. Quality assurance measures are found throughout the system including the tracking of physician's meaningful use measures and report generation.
