A subspecialty teleradiology group built for growth needed a platform that could keep up. Five years and 500,000 interpreted cases later, it found exactly that with RamSoft.

AT A GLANCE

Organization: Expert Radiology Management Services, LLC
Specialty: Subspecialty teleradiology — neuro and musculoskeletal MRI
Scale: 26 board-certified radiologists; 350+ imaging facilities; all 50 states
Solution: RamSoft® PowerServer® with PowerReader
Founded: 2020

OVERVIEW

Expert Radiology Management Services, LLC was founded in 2020 by Dr. Avery J. Knapp Jr. with a clear mandate: build a subspecialty teleradiology group that could scale nationally from day one. Today, that team has grown to 26 board-certified, fellowship-trained radiologists serving more than 350 imaging facilities across all 50 states.

The group's focus is outpatient MRI — with deep expertise in neuro and musculoskeletal imaging. Its proprietary PrecisionPlus™ reporting framework transforms complex imaging findings into structured, visually rich reports designed to support faster, more confident clinical and legal decisions. With over 500,000 cases interpreted and consistent year-over-year growth of approximately 80%, Expert Radiology has built its reputation on one principle: radiology expertise, communicated with clarity.

The Challenge: Starting from scratch — and getting it right the first time

When Dr. Knapp founded Expert Radiology in 2020, the challenge wasn't migrating away from a legacy system — there was no prior PACS infrastructure to leave behind. The challenge was choosing the right foundation for a subspecialty teleradiology practice built to scale nationally from day one.

That made the platform decision critical. In teleradiology, radiologist time is the organization's most valuable — and most expensive — resource. Every second saved loading a study, accessing prior reports, or navigating a worklist compounds across hundreds of daily reads. Choosing the wrong platform wouldn't just create friction; it would put a ceiling on growth.

"We like RamSoft for ease of use for the radiologists. It's useful for operations and reporting, and we look forward to them continuing along their technological evolution as we do also." — Avery J. Knapp Jr., M.D., Expert Radiology

The Need: Three priorities. Zero room for compromise.

Three priorities shaped the search: radiologist usability, reporting strength and scalability. Since radiologists represent the single largest labor cost in any radiology organization, a fast, intuitive reading environment wasn't a preference — it was a requirement.

Equally important was a platform capable of supporting growth: onboarding new facilities, managing an expanding network of VPN connections, and handling rising case volumes without disruption. The platform had to perform on day one and keep pace as volumes multiplied.

The RamSoft Approach: A clean start. A configurable foundation. Measurable results.

Expert Radiology deployed RamSoft's PowerServer with PowerReader as its primary reading environment — starting from scratch, with no legacy data to migrate. That clean start let the team configure the platform around their workflows from day one, without compromise.

Radiologist efficiency that compounds at scale

PowerReader's responsiveness — cases loading in roughly five to six seconds — and intuitive interface keep radiologists focused on reading, not navigating software. In a practice where throughput is everything, that speed has a direct operational impact across every shift.

Automated routing that eliminated a manual bottleneck

As volumes grew, manual study assignment became unsustainable. By connecting their Zeta Health credentialing database to drive automated routing, each study now reaches the right radiologist instantly — cutting turnaround times by as much as 50%. What was once a workflow constraint became a competitive advantage. RamSoft Results

White-glove VPN support — at teleradiology speed

Managing nearly 100 active client VPN connections demands reliable, fast coordination. RamSoft's support team has delivered what Cristian Lorenzo describes as "white glove service" — with RamSoft-to-RamSoft connections often completed within a single day. For a distributed teleradiology operation, that responsiveness is a differentiator.

Results: Five years of growth. One platform keeping pace.

Five years in, Expert Radiology has grown from 7,000 annual studies to nearly 200,000 — with radiologist satisfaction high and operational friction low. Automated study assignment has cut turnaround times by approximately 50%. Nearly 100 active VPN client connections are managed with the same speed and reliability that defined the practice's first deployments. And a 26-person radiologist team that rarely raises complaints about PACS performance is perhaps the most telling metric of all.

With voice recognition integration now underway, Expert Radiology is positioned for its next phase of growth. RamSoft's platform is built to scale alongside it.

"RamSoft’s PowerServer 6.7 upgrade is a game-changer — it is significantly snappier.  As a guy who thinks in milliseconds, this saves thousands, per case.  Bravo!" — Avery J. Knapp Jr., M.D., Expert Radiology
