Matakina International announced that The Hospital of Central Connecticut (HOCC) is the first facility in Connecticut to adopt VolparaDensity breast imaging software, designed to help overcome the limitations of mammography to detect cancer in women with dense breasts. The Enterprise installation of HOCC provides the ability to offer objective volumetric breast density values for mammograms performed at six facilities on eight Hologic full-field mammography systems.

The role of volumetric breast density assessment software to more accurately estimate the radiation dose received during breast screening was the focus of two landmark research papers presented at the 55th annual meeting of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM), Aug. 4-8, in Indianapolis. The papers both took advantage of the volumetric breast density numbers generated by Matakina International’s Volpara imaging software to calculate personalized or patient-specific dose estimates, according to Matakina.

The Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) annual meeting has transitioned in recent years from an imaging device focus to an imaging information technology focus. The interest in software continued at this year’s meeting, partly fueled by the need for healthcare organizations to meet Stage 1 and 2 meaningful use requirements. Two key trends seen throughout the show floor included remote viewing systems for radiology images and technology streamlined to aid workflow efficiency.

Matakina International today announced a partnership with Microsoft Corporation to make its revolutionary breast density assessment software available to users globally via the Microsoft Azure Cloud. As a result of the partnership, the company launched a cloud-based version of its Volpara Breast Density Assessment software at the 98th annual meeting of the Radiology Society of North America, Nov. 25-30, 2012.

Matakina International announced the launch of Volpara Imaging Software 1.5.7 which expands the number of digital mammography systems on which the software can be used to offer objective breast density measurements to include Fuji, Philips, IMS Giotto and Medi-Future in addition to processing mammography studies acquired on GE, Hologic, Siemens digital mammography systems. The company showcased the new software package at the 98th Annual Meeting of the Radiology Society of North America, Nov. 25-30, 2012.

October 10, 2012 — El Camino Hospital announced it is the first facility in the San Francisco Bay Area to adopt Volpara breast density measurement software from Matakina Intl. The hospital’s breast health center is among the latest California breast imaging facilities that have adopted the objective breast density assessment tool designed to improve early detection among women with dense breasts, including Sutter Health Foundation Women’s Center in Santa Rosa and North Valley Breast Clinic in Redding.
