The theme of The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS23) is Health That Connects + Tech That Cares, which suggests that there's an active balance behind every decision that is made in healthcare, and every step that is taken to execute that decision, giving equal weight to both. The annual conference will take place April 17-21, 2023, at the McCormick Place in Chicago, and will welcome more than 40,000 information and technology advocates and experts to transform health and wellness, including CXOs, providers, educators, students, information and technology professionals, public policy experts, innovators, consultants and market suppliers.

HIMSS23 will bring together a broad array of professionals from all career stages who are united with one main goal: to deliver the best possible health outcomes for every organization and individual. The five-day conference and expo will feature more than 300 education sessions, and numerous networking and exhibition opportunities that can be tailored to your specific interests.

This year’s conference will allow attendees to experience world-class education from thought leaders sharing visionary concepts and approaches, while networking with peers to discuss today’s most pressing topics and the latest technology trends. The expo floor will be a place to discover valuable new products and services, and network with global colleagues while exploring solutions from startups and innovators.

More than 200 education sessions will explore eight main topics: Business; Data and Information; Employee Engagement and Retention; Organization Governance; Personalized Care; Policy; Process and Operations; and Technology. You can view the full program here.

More than 1,000 exhibiting companies bring thought leadership, product expertise and just- released tech. Included in this year’s show experience are thought leadership presentations in specialty pavilions; centralized product experts to help efficiently solve problems; and innovation in just-released tech, pitch competitions and more. Check out everything HIMSS23 has to offer, including the exhibiting companies and product categories, and plan your schedule prior to the conference.

Special Announcements at HIMSS23

This year, HIMSS will be launching several new enhancements that will be rolled out throughout the conference.

New HIMSS Maturity Model: C-COMM. Advancing Digital Health Transformation in the Community: Community Care Outcomes with HIMSS Newest Maturity Model (C-COMM). The majority of the world’s citizens seek health services within communities. The impact of COVID-19 brought to light many of the issues healthcare and community care organizations face. According to HIMSS, the Community Care Outcomes Maturity Model (C-COMM) is its newest maturity model that moves beyond traditional outpatient clinics and is designed to address a more comprehensive array of non-acute community-based organizations across the life course (defined as womb-to-end of life). The C-COMM supports advances in digital maturity, strengthens the capacity to deliver healthcare services equitably and efficiently across transitions in care focusing on:

  • Improving outcomes by leveraging digital technologies and establishing resilience enabling effective responsiveness to unexpected disruptions or surges in demand for care;
  • Advancing digital health transformation for non-acute health organizations serving the community; and
  • Focusing on proactive interventions and prevention of risks to strengthen health outcomes for unique population segments

A special presentation will be held April 18 at 10:15 am, with Dr. Rohini Omkar Prasad leading the conversation on the market need for C-COMM, the methodology behind the model, how it advances and strengthens outcomes across community health organizations, and the differences between C-COMM and the Outpatient EMR Adoption Model (O-EMRAM).

Indigenous Community launch. HIMSS23 will be launching an indigenous peoples community that will be part of a roundtable event on April 18: Global Health Equity Network (GHEN) Coffee Talks. Participants are encouraged to share new health equity initiatives, ideas and other important topic that should be highlighted. The GHEN communities include: African American Community; Indigenous Peoples Health Community; Latinx Community; LGBTQIA+ Community; and Women in Health IT (WHIT) Community.

HIMSS23 app. Scheduled to be released late-March, the app will provide an easy way to browse HIMSS23 information, and keep track of conference schedules and plans.

Health and Safety

HIMSS will continue to monitor evolving public health guidance regarding large gathering settings and the local level of COVID-19 community transmission in Cook County and will advise HIMSS23 attendees and exhibitors of any changes that may be made to our vaccine validation requirements.
