February 13, 2019 — At the 2019 Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) global conference and exhibition, Feb. 11-15 in Orlando, Fla., Siemens Healthineers will demonstrate how healthcare providers can benefit from digitalization, particularly in the form of artificial intelligence (AI). In addition to its greater digital services portfolio, Siemens Healthineers will showcase two AI-based applications, the AI-Pathway Companion and the AI-Rad Companion.

PaxeraHealth will launch the PaxeraShare image sharing platform at the 2019 European Congress of Radiology (ECR) annual meeting, Feb. 27-March 3 in Vienna, Austria.

The same virtual reality (VR) reconstructions that surgeons use to plan and rehearse brain surgeries at Hoag Memorial Hospital are being used to engage patients. And neurosurgeons, administrators and patients are all benefitting.

The volume of neurosurgery — and revenues — rose steeply during the three-year phase in of VR at Hoag Memorial Hospital in Newport Beach, Calif., and the reason relates to VR, said neurosurgeon Robert G. Louis, M.D.

Philips announced the launch of IntelliSpace Cardiovascular 4.1, its next-generation cardiovascular image and information management system. The latest version builds on the existing pediatric reporting capabilities, recognizing the important and unique nature of the pediatric environment. Clinicians can now complete their workflows more efficiently in a web browser, while integration with Philips Forcare enables the sharing of patient data between health systems and hospitals. New features also include enhanced security, enterprise protocols and seamless access to Philips' QLab and Tomtec software tools.

At the first trade show since becoming an independent information technology (IT) vendor, Agfa HealthCare declared its concentration is now on enterprise imaging and not on picture archive and communication system (PACS) market.

Software company Pegasystems Inc. announced new survey data revealing the positive impact of quality patient engagement. Sixty-five (65) percent of consumers agree that communications from their doctor's office motivate them to take action to improve their health, and nearly half responded similarly regarding their primary health insurer. To continue this positive impact, the industry needs to understand how to best engage with individuals for better health outcomes, according to Pegasystems.

Hologic Inc. announced the U.S. launch of Unifi Analytics, a business intelligence tool that allows healthcare facilities to manage their mammography devices. Users can also monitor technologist performance and prevent unanticipated downtime via predictive tube replacement technology.
