August 25, 2011 — Konica Minolta Medical Imaging announced the implementation of the wireless Aero digital radiography (DR) system at Sanford Health, the largest, rural, non-profit healthcare system in the United States. Sanford installed two Aero DRs in the emergency department (Trauma 5) and will order three additional units. The company will order one portable unit for the main radiology department, one stationary and one portable for Sanford Heart Hospital, set to open in spring 2012.

August 25, 2011 — MedQuist Holdings Inc., provider of integrated clinical documentation solutions for the United States healthcare system, announced it has closed on the acquisition of M*Modal. The closing price included $48.4 million in cash and the issuance of 4.1 million shares of MedQuist Holdings common stock paid at closing. The company received notification of early termination of the mandatory, pre-merger waiting period under the Hart-Scott-Rodino (HSR) Antitrust Improvements Act of 1976 on Aug. 15.


August 24, 2011 - The Joint Commission issued an alert today explaining ways to lower risks posed by ionizing radiation from imaging exams while maintaining diagnostic image quality. The Joint Commission said healthcare organizations can reduce risks due to avoidable diagnostic radiation by raising awareness among staff and patients of the increased risks associated with cumulative doses, by providing the right test and dose through effective processes and new technology.

August 24, 2011 – Carestream Health has shipped its 2,500th wireless DRX detector, the company announced. The Carestream DRX-1 was the industry’s first wireless, cassette-size detector. Carestream now has a family of six DRX-base systems that help streamline workflow, improve productivity and enhance patient care in both in-room and mobile environments.
