Pacsgear will feature its PACS 2.0 enterprise imaging connectivity solutions at HIMSS 2012. PACS 2.0 is an expanded strategy that combines images from all departments with electronic health records (EHRs). Pacsgear is introducing two new enterprise imaging products: MDR Video 7.0, a digital video capture product, and the Pacsgear Media Server, an integrated platform for capturing, viewing and sharing medical images and results across the enterprise and connecting them to picture archiving and communication system (PACS)/EHR.

Merge will showcase a full slate of its IT products at HIMSS 2012, including several for interoperability, radiology and cardiology.

GNAX DOES VNA provides a flexible picture archiving and communication system (PACS) Vendor Neutral Archive (VNA) that combines the cost benefits of a low-cost cloud storage solution with the security of a permanent PACS archive. The VNA normalizes all medical images, regardless of PACS system, and makes them accessible from any viewer, through the electronic health record ( EHR) or via the Web.

Centricity Radiology Mobile Access 2.0 enables radiologists to use their iPad and iPhone devices to remotely diagnose computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance (MR) exams on an iPad or iPhone when not in proximity to a picture archiving and communication system (PACS) workstation. It is the industry’s only mobile product with clearance for primary diagnosis that accesses images and reports from Centricity PACS. This new mode of access removes a sizable productivity barrier for an increasingly mobile field.

Attendees at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMMS) annual conference and exhibition will be among the first to see the latest additions to Fujifilm Medical Systems U.S.A. Inc.’s Synapse family of medical informatics solutions.

The Elekta Mosaiq oncology information system (OIS) improves radiation and medical oncology workflow and captures all patient information from diagnosis and treatment through followup. Elekta’s commitment to interface standards and vendor-neutral connectivity allows integration between Mosaiq and any enterprise health information system (HIS) or advanced treatment device, while facilitating patient safety and enabling robust access to data.

A new clinical review monitor, the RadiForce MX270W from Eizo Nanao, features a 27-inch screen and incorporates an LED (light-emitting diode) backlight as well as IPS LCD panel with a native resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 (16:9 aspect ratio). It is suitable for displaying multiple imaging applications or multiple windows to improve the work efficiency of physicians and radiologists. It is the first monitor in the MX Series to include an integrated front sensor for scheduling of remote calibrations.

February 16, 2012 — In an effort to reduce the inappropriate use of medical imaging and improve quality of care, a large, tertiary-care hospital has successfully implemented a computerized physician order entry (CPOE) system with clinical decision support for radiology, according to a study in the February issue of the Journal of the American College of Radiology. Significant increases in meaningful use (for electronically created studies, from 0.4 percent to 61.9 percent; for electronically signed studies, from 0.4 percent to 92.2 percent) and the adoption of CPOE (from 0.5 percent to 94.6 percent) were observed.
