Intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) has become the most commonly used type of radiation in prostate cancer, but research from the University of North Carolina suggests that the therapy may not be more effective than older, less expensive forms of radiation therapy in patients who have had a prostatectomy.

Tennessee has become the eighth state with Breast Density Inform legislation. Public Chapter 387 becomes effective July 1, 2014. And, Governor Robert Bentley has signed Alabama's Breast Density Inform bill into law. Alabama becomes the ninth state to enact mandatory Breast Density Inform (Chapter: 2013-284). Thirty-six percent of American women now live in states with mandatory Breast Density Inform.

Hologic Inc. announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the use of Hologic's new C-View 2-D imaging software. C-View 2-D images may now be used in place of the conventional 2-D exposure previously required as part of a Hologic 3-D breast tomosynthesis screening exam.

Imaging Solutions Inc. and Medic Vision Imaging Solutions Ltd. announced that an imaging partner is now able to offer routine high-quality, low-dose lung cancer screening services to the general public at rural shopping centers in the Upper Midwest, using a mobile computed tomography (CT) scanner unit fitted with Medic Vision’s add-on SafeCT system.

 

Philips Healthcare announced that CX50 xMatrix, the first portable ultrasound with Philips' Live 3-D  transesophageal echo (TEE), now offers 2-D intracardiac echo (ICE) capability. The CX50 xMatrix with available Live 3-D TEE and ICE was first shown in Paris at the EuroPCR in May.
