The American College of Radiology (ACR) now offers a comprehensive, interactive online education program to train radiologists how to implement a safe and effective lung cancer screening program. Program users can also earn credits toward Lung Cancer Screening Center physician continuing medical education (CME) needs.

New research reports significant differences between men and women with atrial fibrillation (AF) and the safety of intense physical activity. The study found that both moderate and vigorous levels of exercise are safe for women living with AF. However, vigorous levels of exercise are associated with an increased risk of AF in men. The research, analyzing data from a large-scale or robust patient population of nearly 380,000 patients, was presented at Heart Rhythm 2015, the Heart Rhythm Society’s 36th annual scientific sessions.

A largest-of-its kind study has found that women who experience menopause at a younger age are at a decreased risk of atrial fibrillation (AF). The study followed nearly 18,000 women and revealed that women experiencing menopause younger than 44 years had a significantly lower risk of AF than women entering menopause between the ages of 44-50. The research was presented at Heart Rhythm 2015, the Heart Rhythm Society’s 36th annual scientific sessions.

iCAD Inc. announced that Noridian, the Medicare administrative contractor in Jurisdictions E and F, has made recent web postings related to Coding for High Dose Rate Brachytherapy for Non-Melanoma Skin Cancers. These postings instruct physicians to report CPT code (17999) rather than the established CPT code (0182T) for electronic brachytherapy for non-melanoma skin cancers. Jurisdictions E and F consist of 13 states primarily on the West Coast.

vRad (Virtual Radiologic) announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to be acquired by Mednax Inc. (NYSE: MD), provider of maternal-fetal, newborn, pediatric subspecialty and anesthesia physician services. The cash transaction is valued at $500 million and is expected to be accretive to Mednax’s earnings. Projected completion for the transaction is the second quarter of 2015.
