Varian Medical Systems Inc. announced it has, through one of its European subsidiaries, agreed to acquire Claymount, a privately-held, Netherlands-based supplier of components and subsystems for X-ray imaging equipment manufacturers. Varian's subsidiary in the Netherlands will pay approximately €50 million in cash for Claymount. The transaction was expected to close early in August.

ViewRay Inc. announced in late July its successful completion of a reverse merger with ViewRay Technologies Inc. The combined entity will focus solely on the business of ViewRay, the makers of MRIdian, the world's first and only commercial magnetic resonance image (MRI)-guided radiation therapy system that images and treats cancer patients simultaneously. ViewRay will trade on the OTC Markets under the symbol "VRAY."

Patients with stage I, II or III breast cancer see marginal benefit on overall survival with irradiation of regional nodes, according to a new study from the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC). Conducted at a median follow-up of 10.9 years, the study found that overall survival was 82.3 percent for regional irradiation versus 80.7 percent for no regional irradiation (HR=0.87 (95%CI: 0.76, 1.00), p=0.06).

GE Healthcare announced that it will provide picture archiving and communication system (PACS) and vendor neutral archiving systems for Adventist Health, a health delivery system serving more than 70 communities in California, Hawaii, Oregon and Washington. As part of the five-year agreement, Adventist Health will utilize one enterprise-wide system, using Centricity Solutions for Enterprise Imaging in 18 of its community hospitals.

IMRIS Inc. announced in late July that investment funds managed by Deerfield Management Company L.P. (“Deerfield”) were the prevailing parties in the recently completed sale process for the company’s assets. Deerfield is a healthcare-focused investment firm that manages over $6 billion in assets, and has been the company’s lender, both prior to and following the commencement of the company’s chapter 11 proceedings.
