Company addresses medical imaging’s rapidly expanding role in the guidance of cardiovascular procedures

March 16, 2017 — During the 66th Annual Scientific Session & Expo of the American College of Cardiology (ACC), March 17-19 in Washington, D.C., Siemens Healthineers will showcase technologies that integrate images and information at every step of the treatment process, with a theme of “Making Complex Simple.”

From minimally invasive structural heart procedures to the treatment of highly complex coronary disease, medical imaging is playing an increasingly vital role in guiding and simplifying complex cardiovascular procedures. As imaging’s role intensifies, Siemens Healthineers will highlight recent innovations such as syngo CTO Guidance, a software application that fuses computed tomography with fluoroscopy to aid patients with difficult-to-treat coronary total occlusions. The company said this technology could potentially result in a more successful procedure using reduced levels of radiation and contrast.

Another new imaging innovation from Siemens Healthineers, Compressed Sensing Cardiac Cine, accelerates the acquisition of magnetic resonance (MR) images by factors of more than 10. This enables clinicians to image the entire left ventricle in just one breath-hold for fast evaluation of wall abnormalities caused by coronary stenosis. Similarly, the company’s CLEARStent Live software enables real-time enhancement of stents as well as cardiac motion compensation during the delicate tasks of positioning and deployment.
