Putting customers first by making security protection as the U.S. Armed Forces standard

Toshiba America Medical Systems, Inc. is the first manufacturer to have received authorization to operate (ATO) with the U.S. Air Force for its entire MR portfolio. Toshiba achieved ATO status for its Vantage Titan 1.5T and Vantage Titan 3T MR systems last year. This latest authorization includes its Vantage Elan 1.5T MR system.

By receiving ATO status, Toshiba’s MR systems have met the Air Force and Defense Health Agency’s (DHA) Platform Information Technology (PIT) guidelines for ensuring protection of Patient Health Information (PHI) and guarding against malware, viruses and malicious software. To meet these guidelines, Toshiba enhanced its MR platform to include Microsoft Windows 7 and application whitelisting security software to proactively identify and prevent viruses and malicious solicitations.

“The security of medical equipment and patient data is an extremely important issue in the healthcare industry,” said Guy Poloni, director, MR Business Unit, Toshiba. “This authorization is an example of how Toshiba continues to develop technology that meets our customers’ needs with a highly secure MR system.”

Select Toshiba CT systems have also recently received Air Force ATO. Toshiba highlighted its MR portfolio at this year’s Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) annual meeting in Chicago.
