May help expand detection and diagnosis with less invasive ultrasound procedures

Dec. 7, 2015 — Giving customers the tools to improve workflow and expand the clinical utility of ultrasound, Toshiba America Medical Systems, Inc. is providing enhancements to its Aplio 500 Platinum Series ultrasound system with Innovation 2016. These enhancements deliver on Toshiba’s commitment to putting customers first by extending the life of ultrasound systems by offering updates with the most advanced technology available:

  • 3D Superb Micro-Vascular Imaging (SMI): Provides enhanced visualization of low velocity flow, allowing clinicians to see smaller vessels in and around areas like tumors and lymph nodes in all three dimensions with the latest Smart 3D technology. 3D SMI improves the anatomical visualization of certain microvascular structures without the need for more invasive modalities.
  • 3D Shear Wave: Offers improved visualization of tissue stiffness of the liver in three dimensions, helping with the visualization of hard lesions. Additionally, the propagation mode supports ease-of-use of the shear wave mapping for repetitive scans.

“The enhancements to the Aplio 500 Platinum ultrasound system will help our customers achieve the triple aim of healthcare reform with a safer, less invasive and more cost-effective solution,” said Maria Piazza, director, ultrasound business unit, Toshiba. “Toshiba understands that incorporating technologies to make ultrasound more patient-friendly and improve workflow gives our customers a worry-free experience so they can focus on delivering what matters most: patient care.”

The enhancements are available for upgrade to existing Aplio 500 Platinum customers. Toshiba will showcase the enhancements at Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) annual meeting in Chicago.
