Agreement will integrate IBA’s compact Proteus One system with Pravida’s turnkey radiation protection facilities

IBA, Pravida Bau, single-room proton therapy, Europe

April 29, 2015 — Ion Beam Applications S.A. (IBA) and Pravida Bau GmBH announced an agreement to supply integrated single-room proton therapy solutions to customers in Europe.

The solution will combine Proteus One, IBA’s compact proton therapy system, with the patented Forster – Sandwich – Construction method exclusively installed by Pravida Bau, which designs and builds turnkey radiation protection facilities. This construction method is fast and easy to install and reduces the environmental footprint of the project through the use of local material filling, rather than overreliance on concrete.

Of the 34 proton therapy centers ordered to IBA, seven have chosen for Proteus One, IBA’s compact single-room proton therapy solution that can be integrated easily into many kinds of healthcare settings. The combination of smaller system size, strong clinical capabilities and patient-centered design of ProteusONE makes proton therapy more accessible to clinical institutions and their patients worldwide.

The system delivers intensity modulated proton therapy (IMPT), which combines the precise dose delivery of pencil beam scanning (PBS) with the dimensionally accurate imaging of 3-D cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), enabling physicians to truly track where protons will be targeting tumor cells.
