Sept. 27, 2026 — Siemens Healthineers recently launched Accela, a radiotherapy solution engineered around NeoArc, combining speed and precision for a broad range of cases while improving the scalability of complex treatments and reducing the time patients spend in radiotherapy treatment.

The Accela solution allows for single breath-hold stereotactic treatments and enables multi-site SBRT treatment in as little as 60 seconds, shortening patient time on the treatment table. The planning software’s advanced AI and algorithms allow clinicians to balance the optimization of plan quality and delivery speed.

In addition, Accela brings unmatched linac functionality, with a large HyperSight cone-beam CT imaging panel, a newly designed multi-leaf collimator, high-speed gantry rotation at 2.5 RPM, dose rates up to 40 Gy/min, and a new eight-megavolt flattening filter-free energy setting.

Dee Khuntia MD, chief medical officer at Varian, the Siemens Healthineers cancer-care business, said “[Accela is] built on a fundamentally modern architecture and it introduces a generational shift in treatment planning. But what excites me most is its potential to alter the biological response to radiotherapy. That's not incremental progress; it's a new chapter.”

Expanding Radiotherapy Options

For healthcare systems facing a rising cancer burden, growing treatment complexity, and staffing constraints, Accela expands radiotherapy treatment options, enables fast, more precise workflows and an improved experience for patients and clinicians.

“[This] announcement shows a level of innovation in radiotherapy only Siemens Healthineers can deliver,” said Arthur Kaindl, head of Varian. “It stands on a foundation that took decades to build: a global imaging business, our radiation-oncology installed base, mature AI and software, and long-term clinical relationships. We owe enormous gratitude to the thousands of colleagues whose work and ingenuity over the past years have brought us here.”

The development of Accela and NeoArc was informed through years of collaboration by Siemens Healthineers and an advisory group of leading cancer-research institutions: Mayo Clinic, Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and Siteman Cancer Center, University Hospital Zurich, Seidman Cancer Center at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, Maastro - Maastricht Radiation Oncology Institute, Mass General Brigham Cancer Institute, and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK). Their clinical input, research collaboration, and product evaluation have helped guide this innovation.
