Newest offerings include new pocket ultrasound unit, Shear Wave elastography

October 31, 2014 — GE Healthcare will showcase several recent advances in its ultrasound technology at RSNA 2014, including:

Vscan with Dual Probe: Featuring a two-in-one probe, the Vscan with Dual Probe offers healthcare providers many uses for pocket ultrasound. This pocket-sized ultrasound device houses two transducers in a single probe, allowing clinicians to see both shallow and deep views of the body without changing probes. This latest innovation helps enable efficient triage and fast workflow, which may lead to time and cost savings in point of care settings. It also may add clinical value in a wide variety of resource-constrained environments with a pocket-sized device that covers many point of care ultrasound procedures.

Voluson E10 with HDlive technology: GE's newest Voluson system features the world's first curved matrix electronic 4-D probe designed specifically for OB/GYN and the next generation version of its HDlive software. The system provides healthcare providers four times the ultrasound pathways for improved clarity and spectacular 2-D and 3-D/4-D images with increased penetration; 10-times the data transfer rates for more speed and to give higher resolution and very fast frame rates; and four times the processing power for more flexibility with advanced applications and efficient workflow.

Invenia ABUS: This breast imaging technology, when used in addition to mammography, can improve breast cancer detection by 35.7 percent over mammography alone. The Invenia ABUS acquisition process uses 3-D ultrasound technology to comfortably and quickly image women with dense breast tissue in approximately 15 minutes with features that conform to a woman's anatomy, which helps provide patient comfort. This product designed for imaging dense breast tissue comes at a critical time when there is growing awareness of the increased risk of cancer for women with high breast density. Having dense breasts may increase a woman’s risk of developing breast cancer up to 4-6 times.

ShearWave elastography: A new expert tool for the Logiq E9 with XDclear, ShearWave elastography offers clinicians an advanced level of diagnostic information to help evaluate tissue stiffness. The Logiq E9 ultrasound system uses a focused burst of acoustic energy from the transducer to generate Shear  Waves that produce quantitative measurements and a color-coded elastogram. These quantifiable exams provide enhanced benefits as compared with traditional strain elastography, in which the operator uses manual compression to produce a qualitative assessment of tissue that often produces varied results between users.

Vivid E9 with XDclear: Built from the Vivid E9 platform, the new Vivid E9 with XDclear is designed to enhance image quality in 2-D, 4-D, color and Doppler. The image clarity improvements could be especially useful in individuals that have proved difficult to scan in the past, such as obese patients. In a high-stress setting like the echo lab, interventional suite or the OR, conducting an ultrasound examination on a patient who is difficult to scan can not only increase scan time, but can also increase anxiety for the patient and physician. The XDclear transducers take advantage of GE Healthcare’s recent development in acoustic engineering, combining Single Crystal, Cool Stack and Acoustic Amplifier technologies.

Venue 50: From power-up to clean-up, this portable ultrasound delivers crisp images quickly with the simplicity of a tablet. The intuitive touch user interface offers easy gel-and-go scanning – a clinician can just select the probe and preset in one step. Designed for speed, it takes just moments to boot up and has no buttons, keyboard or knobs to slow clinicians down when scanning the patient or disinfecting the system.

GE Healthcare will also showcase the latest advancements to its Ultrasound IT.
