Meet the New Editor

Earlier this year when my mom went in for knee replacement surgery, I witnessed first hand numerous medical technologies — and clinicians — in action.

As an outside observer it was obvious that medical technology is advancing at a rapid pace, and while it helps patients, clinicians and increases speed, it can also bring new hurdles to the healthcare profession. These include training personnel to use new technology, integration of new software and hardware with existing computer systems, researching the pros and cons of new equipment and software, and overcoming major capital expenses to upgrade to the new, constantly changing technologies — all while keeping in mind the human element required to comfort and care for patients.

I am not a medical professional and so I have stepped into the editor's role at Acuity Care Technology with a clean slate and open mind.

I have no preconceived notions of how hospitals should be run or what companies make the best products. What I do bring you is more than 15 years experience as a journalist and editor for several weekly and daily newspapers. I have written about everything from issues in local schools and village board debates, to one-on-one interviews with U.S. lawmakers, environmental issues, and advanced research projects at the U.S. Department of Energy's Argonne and Fermi national laboratories. Just as I have served my former community of readers, I hope to bring timely, relevant, useful information to my new community.

I have always maintained an open door policy and welcomed comments, suggestions and press releases from my readers. I wanted to give the communities I served a sense of ownership in the publication and hope to do the same with Acuity Care Technology. Please feel free to contact me at any time.
