Endorectal Balloon Enables Repeatable Positioning During Radiation Therapy

August 4, 2010 - A disposable, single-use rectal balloon device immobilizes the rectal wall and adjacent structures of the anatomy and enables repeatable positioning throughout the course of radiation therapy treatment.

The Pro-Tekt design features a smooth rubberized tip, flexible shaft and gas venting that allows for easy insertion and withdrawal while minimizing discomfort to the patient. Physicians inflate the latex-free endorectal balloon with air or fluid. The device can help the radiation oncologist consider reducing field margins which may decrease side effects to organs that are adjacent to the tumor.

The Pro-Tekt device is now available throughout the United States, Australia and Europe.

Medrad Inc. also announced an exclusive distribution agreement with WFR-Aquaplast/Qfix Systems for the Pro-Tekt device.
