Vivek Mehta, M.D., is a radiation oncologist at Swedish Cancer Institute, Seattle, and a new member of the ITN Editorial Advisory Board.

Radiation oncology is an important area of concentration for Imaging Technology News (ITN), as we provide coverage of radiation therapy technology, treatment planning solutions and data management systems specifically for radiation oncology.

As we strive to further strengthen our expertise in this field, I am honored to welcome Vivek Mehta, M.D., a radiation oncologist at Swedish Cancer Institute, Seattle, to the ITN Editorial Advisory Board.
Dr. Mehta joined Swedish Cancer Institute in 2002, and is actively involved in designing and developing clinical research studies at Swedish Cancer Institute and through national research organizations, including the Southwestern Oncology Group.

His clinical interests include image-guided radiotherapy, balloon catheter-based breast brachytherapy, gamma knife radiosurgery, intensity modulated radiotherapy, stereotactic radiosurgery, and three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy.

Dr. Mehta has been involved in a number of clinical research studies and has been widely published in medical journals and publications. He has written several articles evaluating the use of concurrent chemotherapy and radiation in the management of malignancy, which he also presented at national and international meetings. His research has appeared in the peer-reviewed International Journal of Radiation Oncology, Biology and Physics, the American Journal of Clinical Oncology, Archives of Surgery, and the Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery.

A graduate of Georgetown University, Dr. Mehta earned his medical degree from the University of Washington and completed his internship at both the Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center and Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland, Ore. He completed his residency at Stanford University Medical, where he also served as chief resident in the radiation oncology department. He is board certified in therapeutic radiology.

In 2004 and 2006, Seattle magazine named Dr. Mehta one of the city’s top doctors in the area of radiation oncology.
